Tuscany is one of the largest and most important Italian regions characterized by its great historical heritage, artistic, and cultural landscape. It is located in central Italy, bordering north-west with Liguria, north with the Emilia-Romagna, in the east with the Marches and Umbria, to the south with Lazio. On the west, the region is bathed in the Ligurian Sea, through its 397 km of mainland coast, from central and northern stretch between Marina di Carrara and the Gulf of Baratti. The Tyrrhenian Sea touches the southern coast, between the promontory of Piombino and Chiarone mouth of the river.
